Is Weisure the answer to happiness?

Weisure = Leisure + Work

New York University sociologist Dalton Conley coined the word. It’s the next step in the evolving work-life culture.

But is this a good thing or a bad thing for savvy mompreneurs?

soccer-mom1 Is Weisure the answer to happiness?When you combine technology with the ability to work 24/7 because we are our own boss and we can work whenever we want, are we really creating more work or the ability to multi-task on a much grander scale?

So how does a savvy mompreneur do it all?

She has a business that she loves!

When I am working on my passion, it doesn’t feel like work. Last week, I was in Hawaii with my oldest daughter and my husband to celebrate her graduation. I woke up in the morning and checked my email. Then I strolled the beach while doing some meditations and prayer. On two different days, I actually had client meetings: one was on the beach next to a tiki bar and the other was on my condo patio next to a beautiful waterfall. What was my family doing while I was working? Snorkeling, catching some rays, working out and/or sleeping in. I was effective in my business and on my vacation. I even got two new clients out of it! (I guess most people don’t sit at the tiki bar with their laptops in Hawaii–so I was the talk of the crowd a bit…).

As moms who choose to build our businesses around our lifestyle, we have the opportunity to leverage technology so it works FOR our lifestyle and not against.

The downside? Connecting on Facebook and Twitter from your cell phone can be efficient and fun. But it can also be addictive. Make sure you are clear about your boundaries so that you can use “weisure” as a benefit in your life and not a negative.
